FAQ

What is Vitamin H?

Vitamin H is an intelligent hashtag research tool that uses complex AI to find the best, most engaged Instagram hashtags.

We analyze massive amounts of data to find the top performing hashtags for over a thousand niche topics. The result is a hand curated, current list, free from banned hashtags and the “same old” tired tags that simple searches surface.

A human VA would spend 18-30  hours researching and analyzing  to find the top performing tags on any one of our lists.  And would have to repeat the process every two weeks to remain current as our lists are stamped for freshness and re-created every two weeks. Things change.

Consider:

  • Most content on instagram goes unseen
  • The right hashtags get your account discovered, by the right people
  • Reaching the right people fuels growth, engagement and authority
  • No other tool uses complex AI to do in depth research, that is continuously refreshed to eliminate banned tags and reflect up to the moment trends and usage

With Vitamin H your hashtags are always  fresh, topical, and engaging without being spammy.  No more repetitive tags or worrying about banned tags.

How do hashtags make it onto a Vitamin H RX list?

Vitamin H hashtag recommendations are:

  • The most likely tags to get your post discovered
  • The most highly engaged
  • The most current -  trends are lightning fast. We refresh constantly so your hashtags are fresh, not last year or even last month’s stale picks.
  • The most related to your niche/topic
  • Not too popular or too obscure

We take the time to dig deeper, and look at multiple factors when preparing your hashtag recommendations. Sort of like a personal assistant might, but more quickly, efficiently, and for less money.

What is hashtag discovery, and why is it so important?

Hashtag discovery is the magic that happens when your images and account are seen by, or “discovered” by non-followers.

It happens several different ways:

  • When a user searches instagram for a specific hashtag, they see the most recent and top posts for that hashtag, regardless of whether they follow the poster.  Your goal: get seen by using the most searched and engaged hashtags.
  • When a user follows a hashtag, instagram serves up a selection of engaged posts that have used this hashtag to the user’s feed. Your goal: show up in more hashtag follow feeds.
  • Hashtag feed followers may see recommendations for accounts to follow that use similar hashtags. Your goal: get recommended more!

  • When hashtagged story posts are featured in Instagram hashtag stories. Your goal: show up in the most viewed stories.

Hashtag discovery leads to more followers, better engagement, and even more discovery.

Where should I use hashtags?

Hashtags can be used:

  • In your Instagram profile
  • In your Instagram stories
  • In your Instagram post captions
  • In your Instagram post comments.

Should I place hashtags in my post caption or my post comments?

Some people prefer to put hashtags in their post comments, because they prefer minimalistic or more narrative captions.

Some people argue that photos that use captions in the original post are slightly more likely to be discovered. We cannot confirm or deny these theories.

Are hashtags spammy?

You should use hashtags that are on topic, relevant to your post, location and community, lead to discovery and engagement. They are generally perceived as helpful, not spammy.

When should I add hashtags?

Hashtags should be added at the time of posting, or as soon as possible after. Instagram story hashtags cannot be added retroactively.

Whether you post the hashtags in the caption or the comments of your posts, the time stamp for your hashtag will be noted as the time the of the original post.

This means that if you add a hashtag hours or days later, the post will be retroactively added to the historical feed for that hashtag. It may be buried by more recent posts.

How many hashtags should I use?

There are many differing schools of thought about how many hashtags to use. Some people say six, nine, or all 30. We advise using all 30 - why not take advantage of every opportunity for engagement and discovery?

Why are Vitamin H hashtag RX lists  better for my account?

Vitamin H hashtag RX lists are carefully and intelligently sourced, fresh. We find you the freshest, most active and most relevant tags, right now, for your content, location and community.

When you consistently use the best hashtags that are the most engaged, your account is more likely to garner engagement and discovery from people who are genuinely interested in your content. This lends your account authority.

Vitamin H hashtag RX quickly are your “secret sauce” for simply and quickly building account authority through discovery and engagement.

Instagram algorithms change frequently but their goal is matching users and content in an organic fashion. Algorithms favor accounts that use hashtags authentically, and responsibly, matching tags to content, location and community.

What if I post on multiple topics?

In order to stay true to your niche, and build your authority, consider using tags from one or two lists consistently on all of your posts,

However, most photos support tagging from multiple lists and mixing it up may bring in new viewers as long as you stay true to your niche and the elements of your photo.

Consider tagging your photos with location tags, item tags and additional topics/themes that are similar to your main topics.

Example: A family travel blogger posting a photo of a beach barbecue in California can attract more followers by using food, location, and style tags along with family and travel ones.

Creating your own hashtag cocktails is part of the fun, especially when you start with the best, most fresh ingredients.

How do I pick the best hashtags for my Instagram posts, in order to grow my brand?

Most successful instagrammers have a core niche, and the majority of their hashtags always reinforce their area of expertise, reflecting that they are an authority for that topic.

However, it’s also important to remember, with specific images you are not limited to a single topic.

Often your image and/or captions will include elements that are of interest to people outside your core niche. Why not take advantage of these opportunities to reach new audiences?

30 hashtags is a generous amount. Save a few spots for custom tagging each image, keeping your account fresh and encouraging discovery from outside your core niche.

Depending on your images, and your goals, you may want to reference multiple Vitamin H RX lists.

How important is it to be consistent with my hashtags?

Mixing up your tags and posting tags that are specific to each individual image is part of a healthy instagram regimen.

If you are looking to build your account and/or grow a brand you should aim for at least half your hashtags to consistently reflect the topic for which you would like to build authority and be recognized.

As instagram algorithms become more sophisticated, we are likely to see authority factor in more. Seeking hashtag authority is akin to seeking keyword authority.

Vitamin H hashtag recommendations help you reinforce your topical hashtag authority without appearing spammy, repetitive or resorting to using stale and overused hashtags.

By staying on top of the latest and hottest hashtags for your topic you solidify your expertise and authority.

What are recommended dosages?

Vitamin H recommended dosages are an easy, premeasured way to cut and paste your hashtag RX into your posts.

We measure these doses by combining the most engaged tags on the list, and mixing small, medium and large hashtags to ensure a “slow burn” effect. This keeps your posts current in feeds for as long as possible.

Each Vitamin H hashtag RX list comes with four doses to get you started.

What are small, medium and large hashtags and why does this matter?

Vitamin H ranks hashtags as small, medium and large based on the frequency of use.

Large hashtags tend to be extremely competitive. They are used so frequently, often several times a second, that posts with these hashtags are rarely discovered. If you were watching that feed, they would fly by!

Medium tags are active, but don’t scroll by as quickly. These are in an engagement sweet spot, and are most likely to be discovered.

Small tags are not particularly active. Your post can stay active and visible for days, weeks, months or even years. This is a good thing, as long as the hashtag is likely to be searched and is not too obscure.

By carefully mixing the right mix of small medium and large hashtags, Vitamin H RX Recommended Dosages, maximize your post’s opportunities for discovery and engagement.

Why is there a freshness date on my list?

Time doesn’t stand still on Instagram. Trends come and go. Hashtags wax and wane.

We stamp each Vitamin H RX list with a freshness date so you can see exactly when these recommendations were generated.

You may continue to use your list as long as you like, but we recommend periodically updating, to stay fresh.

Can I share my list with my friends?

Once you have purchased your list, you are of course free to share it. But we don’t recommend that you do.

Your list was custom blended for your topic of interest, and your seed hashtags. These may not be the same as your friend’s. Additionally, you have taken the initiative to prepare this custom report to support your own efforts, and if you are sharing your custom list widely, you may be giving away the ingredients to your own “secret sauce.”

There is one other thing you can share with a friend - a referral. Send them this link and you’ll both get a free report after they have purchased a report with us.
